1. Executive summary (one page) — for Gary

Why this matters to AmaWaterways now

AmaWaterways is in a growth-and-advisor cycle: new ships (Europe, Mekong, Nile, Magdalena), refreshed branding, early 2026 booking demand, and a sales model that still runs heavily through travel advisors (portal, AmaAcademy, Approach Guides co-branded pages, Sell 3 / Sail Free–style incentives). That is a strength — and a capacity problem.

When demand spikes (new Magdalena sailings selling out months ahead; 2026 inventory opening early; advisor FAMs and Expo moments), lead volume rises faster than human first-touch capacity. Paying advisors (or internal sales) to work every incomplete web inquiry the same way they work a ready-to-book guest is expensive and slow. Guests who wanted a river journey through Europe, Egypt, Colombia, or the Mekong wait — and shop elsewhere.

The problem (operator framing)

PressureAma-specific angle
Lead volumeWebsite inquiries, advisor co-branded landing leads, call volume around new ships / promotions
Cost per touchAdvisor and reservation time spent on tire-kickers and partial “Rhine sometime” emails
SpeedLuxury guests expect a premium first reply; hours of silence undercuts the brand
ConsistencyAma’s product story (immersive rivers, twin balconies, land packages, Wine Cruise / Active / Culinary niches) needs the same discovery discipline every time
Advisor channelYou invest in partners (portal, training, Approach Guides). Direct and overflow leads still need a first-class path that does not compete unfairly with partners — or can assist partners

The solution

Run selected Ama inbound through Orko’s Sales Automation (already built for cruise/travel):

  1. Train once — Ama product + luxury discovery playbooks become machine rules.
  2. Work leads 24/7 — email (and later phone) classified, discovery-gated, drafted.
  3. Score against the playbook — Orko Classifier grades fit / confidence / “no cold quote before Five D’s.”
  4. Hand only qualified work to humans — Ama reservations or preferred advisors open Needs Attention (or join a live call) when the guest is warm.

Pitch in one line: Stop paying humans to work raw Ama lead volume; pay them to close river-cruise opportunities that already cleared discovery.

The outcome

  • Faster first touch on web / email / (pilot+) phone
  • Lower cost per worked lead; higher conversion on rep time
  • Same luxury discovery standard as your best advisors
  • Humans still own send / transfer / close (Red gates) until you choose otherwise

Ask: 30-day pilot on one channel (recommended: direct website inquiries into Orko Needs Attention), then expand.

2. AmaWaterways context (research snapshot)

Public sources as of Sep 2026 — for plan customization, not confidential Ama data.

Product & positioning

  • Luxury river cruise line (Calabasas, CA), co-founded 2002 by Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst, and Jimmy Murphy; Gary Murphy is co-owner and longtime sales leader (SVP Sales; still highly active with trade / AU–NZ after a brief retirement).
  • Positioning: immersive, heartfelt service; “oceans take you to a destination, rivers bring you through it.”
  • Europe core fleet (Rhine, Danube, Douro, etc.) plus Mekong, Nile, Chobe, and Magdalena (Colombia) — first major luxury line on the Magdalena (2025), with AmaMagdalena / AmaMelodia.
  • 2026 growth: AmaSofia (Rhine → Danube; christening tied to ASTA River Cruise Expo / advisors), additional Mekong capacity, Nile investment (e.g. AmaNubia / refreshed AmaDahlia narratives), early open of 2026 reservations after strong prior demand.
  • Signature product cues for playbook language: twin balconies, multiple dining, Active & Discovery / Wine / Culinary themes, pre– and post-cruise land packages, Egyptologist-led Nile, Colombia as adventure-luxury.

How Ama generates and works demand today

ChannelWhat it isImplication for our system
Travel advisorsPrimary distribution; Travel Advisor Portal; AmaAcademy; webinars; FAMs; exclusive offers; Approach Guides co-branded pages that capture advisor-private leadsPilot should not hijack advisor-owned leads. Start with direct Ama web / call overflow, or an “assist the advisor” mode later
Direct websiteamawaterways.com — itinerary browse, offers, request paths, 1-800 reservationsIdeal pilot: form / email inquiries into Sales Automation
PhoneReservations and advisor support numbersPhase 2: Clarissa Live on a dedicated DID with Ama playbook
Trade events / incentivesAdvisor Appreciation, Sell 3 Sail Free–style programs, Expo christeningsSpikes in interest → need faster triage without burning BDMs

Sales / lead-handling posture (public)

Ama’s public story is advisor-first: portal booking engine, marketing toolkits, co-branded content that sends inquiries back to the advisor. That is the brand. Our plan respects it:

  1. Pilot = Ama-owned direct demand (website / selected inbox), not scraping advisor Approach Guides leads.
  2. Optional later: white-label assist so advisors use the same brain on their Ama inquiries.
  3. Language stays advisor-grade luxury discovery, never discount quote-machine.

3. Flow walkthrough — Ama inbound

Source of truth: Orko Sales Automation (training → playbook → Clarissa/Orko → Orko Classifier → human).

3.1 Offline: Ama’s brain

Ama product training + luxury river discovery content
        ↓
Ingest → claim cards → Orko Classifier tags (discovery / qualify / cruise / email / phone)
        ↓
Sync → sales_playbook_rule (Ama pack)
        ↓
Channels: email_partial · email_full · inbound_call

Ama-tuned Five D’s examples

DAma-flavored prompts
DateSeason (tulip time, Christmas markets, Nile season), flexibility
DestinationRhine vs Danube vs Douro vs Nile vs Mekong vs Magdalena; open to suggestion?
Duration7-night vs longer Magnificent Europe; land package interest
DollarsInvestment range for the right suite / balcony experience (not “cheapest cabin”)
DesiresWhy this trip — anniversary, multi-gen, wine, active, first river cruise, Colombia adventure

Hard rules in playbook: no cold prices/sailings on partial; curated 1+1–2 options only after discovery; end discovery with Showtime (scheduled walkthrough with Ama reservations or assigned advisor).

3.2 Live: email / web inquiry (pilot path)

Guest submits web inquiry or emails Ama
        ↓
Orko identity + routing (new guest vs known)
        ↓
Orko Classifier classify (reply-worthy? river-cruise intent?)
        ↓
Channel from message content (Five D’s completeness)
   • Partial → warm discovery, invite call, NO prices/ships buffet
   • Fuller → recap, schedule Showtime, research before quoting
        ↓
Load Ama playbook + Sales Automation pack
        ↓
LLM drafts Ama-voice reply
        ↓
Orko Classifier scores (relevance, tone, history, reply-rate, playbook_fit)
        ↓
Needs Attention → Ama sales / reservations rep
Edit · Send · Dismiss · book Showtime

3.3 Live: phone (phase 2)

Clarissa Live over SIP → same discovery rules → CRM trip brief → schedule Showtime or live-transfer to human. Optional WhatsApp ping to on-call rep.

3.4 Hand-off philosophy for Gary

Orko / Clarissa = best first advisor on the planet for triage.
Ama humans (and partner advisors) = closers and relationship owners.
We do not auto-send or take deposits without a Red gate unless Ama explicitly configures that later.

4. Rough cost comparison (illustrative)

Replace with Ama finance inputs. Directionally: automation absorbs first-touch; humans touch warm leads.

Example: 1,000 direct web leads/month · 80% human-touched today · $45 loaded hour · 15 min/lead → ~$9,000/month labor on triage alone.
With Sales Automation (~30% escalate · ~$1 SI/lead · platform fee $X): triage labor often halves or better, plus speed/consistency gains.
Track cost per Showtime and cost per booking, not only cost per raw lead.
Advisor commissions on booked sailings are a separate distribution topic — this plan targets cost to work leads.

5. Pricing models (estimates for internal discussion)

All figures are starting-point estimates to refine with Gary — not a final quote.

Assumptions for examples: ~1,000 direct leads/month on the pilot channel; ~30% reach human handoff.

Option A — Per-lead handled

Charge only when the system works a lead (classify + draft + score).

Estimate
Price$4–$8 per lead handled
At 1,000 leads$4,000–$8,000 / month
ProsAligns cost with volume; easy pilot math
ConsLess predictable for us; Ama pays even when guests never book

Best when: Volume is spiky around new ships / promotions and Ama wants pure variable cost.

Option B — Platform + per qualified handoff (recommended default)

Monthly platform fee covers brain, playbook updates, hosting; plus a fee only when a lead is escalated to a human as “qualified / Showtime-ready.”

Estimate
Platform$2,500–$5,000 / month
Per qualified handoff$15–$35
At 300 handoffsPlatform + $4,500–$10,500 variable
ProsIncentives match the pitch (pay for warmth, not noise); predictable base
ConsNeeds clear handoff definition (agree in pilot charter)

Best when: Ama wants economics that mirror “don’t pay humans for tire-kickers.”

Option C — Pilot-then-scale

Discounted first 30 days, then committed monthly.

PhaseEstimate
Days 1–30$1,500–$2,500 flat (or 50% off Option B platform) + metered SI at cost
Month 2+Commit to Option A or B at agreed volume band (e.g. up to 1,500 leads/mo)
AnnualOptional 10–15% discount for annual prepay

Best when: Gary wants proof on Ama-brand voice and conversion before a run-rate decision.

How we’d pick with Gary

  1. If the goal is prove the machine → Option C.
  2. If the goal is align to qualified pipeline → Option B.
  3. If the goal is pure variable while ships launch → Option A.

Commercial proposal after pilot week-2 metrics; numbers above are discussion scaffolding only.

6. 30-day pilot proposal (Ama-specific)

ItemRecommendation
ChannelDirect website inquiries (Ama-owned) — not Approach Guides advisor-private leads
Product focusOptional narrow: Europe + one exotic (e.g. Magdalena or Nile) if volume is huge
Duration30 days from go-live
Human gateEvery outbound email approved by Ama reservations / sales
Success metricsMedian time-to-draft; % playbook-compliant drafts; % escalated; Showtime rate; cost per escalated lead; rep pulse
Week 0Wire channel, load Ama playbook seed (destinations, no-cold-quote, Five D’s), smoke-test
Week 4Readout to Gary: expand / iterate / pause

Expand if it works

  • Clarissa Live on a dedicated Ama DID
  • Advisor-assist mode (white-label for partners)
  • High-confidence auto-send for discovery-only replies (optional, gated)

7. Next steps for Gary

  1. Confirm pilot channel (direct web inquiries recommended).
  2. Name ops + commercial owner for a weekly 20-minute check-in.
  3. Share last 30 days’ direct lead volume + current first-touch process for a refined cost + pricing sheet.
  4. 45-minute working session: walk one real Rhine / Nile / Magdalena inquiry end-to-end.
  5. Choose pricing Option A / B / C as the commercial frame for the pilot SOW.

Appendix — Non-negotiables

  • No cold quotes on incomplete discovery
  • No auto-charge / deposit without human approval
  • Respect advisor-owned leads unless partners opt in
  • Ama brand voice + compliance language in playbook before go-live
  • Clear dismiss vs forever for junk senders

Appendix — Sources (public)

  • AmaWaterways site / press materials; Travel Daily / Travel Daily Media ship and 2026 booking coverage
  • Approach Guides / Open Jaw / PAX on co-branded advisor pages (2026)
  • Travel Weekly / Karryon / TAP on Gary Murphy (co-owner, sales leadership; AU market commentary on Colombia & fleet growth)
